Enjoyed Jeff Purvey’s halibut and chips with their coleslaw for birthday lunch today, from Rubidge Street location. Simply delicious and the best fish and chips in Peterborough.

Well, I would say that it’s not an acquired taste. It is a quiet, cozy establishment and also has its regular customers who love to eat fish at any time of the year. The service is good, but you always have to wait.

We were recommended this place by someone who used to go years ago and were warmly greeted by the employee when we arrived right at the opening time. We ordered the two piece halibut and chips and it was and was promptly fried and neatly wrapped. The employee was very friendly and asked if we needed any utensils, condiments, and if we wanted to split the portion into two dishes. The food itself was good, although the halibut could be a bit more moist. Would like to try the pickerel if we ever return. The customer service alone is enough reason to come back.

BIG BEN'S FISH AND CHIPS REVIEWS

Saw the signs posted around town, so my wife and I decided to try their Haddock and chips. The chips were excellent, the fish was cooked perfectly and the batter wasn't too much. The fry on the fish was done quite well. Would highly recommend.

Fresh food ! Amazing service they gave our kid some crayons and a colouring sketch while we waited. Definitely the best fish and chips we had. Will definitely come back oh and the rice pudding was to die for.

Was in town for the weekend and drove by this place around lunch. In a sea of fast food restaurants, we decided to eat here. So glad we did. Food was delicious. Had tye cod and the batter was really light and crispy. I wanna say some of the best fish and chips I have had. Staff was great. Even splurged on the homemade rice pudding. Excellent.

What can I say..... I was touring around Peterborough looking for a Ma and Pa place where I could get some real home cooked food. Well I found it. Clam chowder, Halibut and hand dipped onion rings, coleslaw, coconut cream pie. Tea and water. Clean location, friendly staff, quick service what more could you ask for? The floor is clean, the parking easily accessible, yes a ramp for wheel chairs too. I needed a place like this today. Thank you to the staff today for making my experience a beautiful one.

It's very impressive for how tiny of a place. This spot has a very diverse, well thought out menu for all meals and occasions. The food was fabulous, and the service was fantastic. I will definitely return for a second and third and fourth visit.

It’s a family restaurant, friendly service and food was great (better than those franchise / chain restaurants). We ordered a halibut & chips, haddock & chips, claim chowder and onion rings.
