“Strathcona Island Park features 5 kilometres of walking trails along the river. This 1.6-mile loop trail is considered an easy route, taking an average of 33 minutes to complete. The park has cook huts located in both the north and south areas. Strathcona Island Park is ideal for birthday parties, family gatherings, or reunions. Many picnic tables, benches, barbecue pits, a boat launch, and a playground exist. Additionally, the park includes a baseball stadium. Kids will enjoy the splash park, play area, and water sports. In the fall, you can enjoy a long stroll through the park on the scenic trails, including paved and unpaved paths. Also, the park is wheelchair-accessible.

“Echo Dale Regional Park is a haven for people and wildlife, welcoming more than 110,000 visitors annually. Visitors include sun-loving swimmers, those who enjoy sitting around a fire at night, and regulars who walk the trails daily throughout the year. This is a great place to spend an afternoon or a whole day. The park features a small historical farm, a swimming and paddling lake, and a beautiful sand beach. The swimming lake has lifeguards who start at 11 am daily. Public washrooms, indoor and outdoor showers, and ample changing space are available. “Police Point Park is a 97.7-hectare riverfront park that features trails and a nature centre hosting interpretive programs and displays. The park offers nature programming and activities to the public all year, including community programs and fun, free weekly activities. The park provides excellent educational and outdoor fun opportunities. Police Point Park has a well-maintained network of pathways for walking or biking. During the winter, guests can go snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. The park is famous for dog walking, cycling, and jogging. The perimeter path runs along the riverbank, offering chances to see local wildlife, such as squirrels and deer, along with fantastic river views.

STRATHCONA ISLAND PARK REVIEWS

Love going to Strathcona. Very beautiful during the fall season to go for a long stroll through the park and down some of the scenic trails. Not too many people go to visit it which means you will most likely have parts of the park to yourself for the most part. It has nice playground equipment, and a boat launch for those who want to go on the south Saskatchewan river. Definitely worth a visit if you happen to be in Medicine Hat.

Great park, lots of trails, and picnic tables. Kids park includes an extensive playground with rubber matting and a larger waterpark. The Trans Canada Trail goes through the park along the river. Washrooms available at boatlaunch and playground.

Having had a long drive to get to Medicine Hat from Grande Prairie today, this park was a welcomed stop to go for a walk and stretch my legs. A beautiful trail weaving through cottonwood trees with lots of deer and ducks going about their business.

Beautiful place to relax. They have a walkout dock fully railed for the children's safety. A nice little playground, picnic areas for both family or large group. Good fishing area as well as swimming beach. Canada geese are pretty much staying on the island which is nice. I love the views and how quiet the park was even though there were many people there. Lots of trees and landscaping provide private spots to chill. Really great time there and worth visiting again for sure.

What a beautiful park!! Closed now as they are doing clean up from the storm that hit in July. You can still walk on the trails. Love the swimming lake.

Awesome place for a hike. Nice scenery and history of the old mine life. Make sure to check out the old farm site and mining shacks.

POLICE POINT PARK REVIEWS

This was a great park to go walking in. It is large and has many different trails, not only for walking but also for cross country skiing or snowshoeing in the winter. The scenery and vegetation is quite nice, you see wildlife such as deer, rabbits and birds. If you are a tree lover, such as myself, you will thoroughly enjoy the different shaped trees, standing or on the ground. There are many benches throughout the park and along pathways for breaks or just to stop and take it all in, this park also has public washrooms which is always a plus with a long walk and lots of water drinking. I look forward to visiting again next time I am in Medicine Hat!

Police Point Park Interpretive center had a facelift a year or so ago and it was well worth the wait for the time it was closed. It has a bright, open atmosphere and the staff are friendly, knowledgeable people. If they can't answer your question they will help you find answers in the many displayed books and pamphlets. It's a great place for family activities and getting close to nature! The trails are great for hiking, cycling or for a leisurely stroll. Don't let winter stop you. Strap on some cross country skis and away you go!

A favourite place of ours to walk, bird watch and look for other wildlife. Nicely kept trails with benches and garbage cans along the route to rest and dispose of waste. We went down the river bank this time and walked around the island. Very quiet and serene this afternoon.
