Porte des Anciens Maires' construction plan was inspired by the castles of the first part of the French Renaissance (1509-1531) during the reigns of Kings Louis XII and François I. There is a durable metal plaque mentioning that it was built in honour of the former mayors of the city of Saint-Hyacinthe and in commemoration of the centenary of the Honourable Georges-Casimir Dessaulles and the names of the first eleven mayors of the town, Messrs. The structure is surrounded by greenery with a beautiful view of the river.
