Julio's Barrio is celebrating more than 25 years as Edmonton's Mexican getaway in the middle of Old Strathcona. The Mexican restaurant specializes in tacos, fajitas, nachos with many gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan choices. Julio's Barrio's well-known tequila is a spirit distilled from the blue agave plant–made primarily in the area surrounding the town of Tequila, northwest of Guadalajara highlands of the western Mexican kingdom of Jalisco. Special Anejo or "aged" tequila is matured for a minimum of 12 months in oak barrels, and the extra time needed with wood adds a stronger oak flavouring to the tequila and deepens its colour. Another unique one of Reposado tequilas has been grown in oak barrels for a minimum of two months.
