Had a right knee replacement on June 14th, 2023. Could not be happier. Process and Procedure were explained to me and everything was right on schedule. He answered all my questions and after surgery I called his office several times and got immediate answers to my questions. After 12 weeks I have a new knee which is more functional and does not have the associated pain I had before.. Would like to thank Dr. MacEwan, his staff, the physio- therapy at BGH and the care givers at BGH. I was 110% satisfied.

Performed both hip replacements, one a couple of months back, another last year. Could not be happier with the service, level of care and expertise. I had some small bumps along the way and the doctor was available by text and even called on the weekend. Thank you so much.

Total knee replacement Jan 16/23. Friendly, to the point, kind and obviously a very talented surgeon. I am pleased with my recovery and would definitely ask for his expertise if needed.

Second knee replacement in three years....same review "absolutely first rate". I had my right knee first and my left almost three weeks ago. Excellent pre and post communication both times. I had a small concern about bruising after this surgery and Dr. MacEwan met me at the hospital to check it out, on a Saturday. I was well prepared for both surgeries. Listen to this doctor. He is truly a medical professional. Do what he tells you to do and you will be amazed at the results. I simply would not consider another surgeon - LY
I had a successful hip replacement 3 weeks after first seeing him followed by a spring carpal tunnel surgery again great recovery and no adverse comments from me. Thanks Dr.Macewan and staff for a fantastic job. Reply

Excellent physician. My experience could not have been better. I hate going to doctors probably because of fear of the health unknown. This gentleman took a lot of time reviewing my x-rays. He doesn't talk down to patients but to the contrary, he explains everything, accepts questions, looks a patient in the eye, is intelligent and caring without a huge ego. Terrific doctor. - JB Reply

Dr. Birchard performed a knee replacment on me early August 2022. His attention to details was really re-assuring and after only 5 days I am able to walk around in a limited fashion.I suffer from Parkinsons Disease and he and Tammy, his assisstant were really supportive in the surgery and compensating for my physical issue (shaking.) I am 79 and would definately go to him again for surgery.

Dr. Birchard was my surgeon upon arrival at BGH. He did an amazing job on my wrist. Surgeons are very busy and are there to do their job to the best of their ability and not there to hold your hand or be your best friend. If you are looking for a great surgeon and a nice man then this is your guy. And as for his staff if you treat them with respect you get respect in return. It works both ways.

My elderly father recently had hand surgery performed by Dr Birchard, his assistant/receptionist was very helpful in contacting other medical offices in order to facilitate the required pretest my father needed prior to seeing Dr. Birchard. We found him always courteous and willing to help.
