I have been a patient of Dr. Lavens for several years for various Urology related issues. He is always pleasant, professional, knowledgable and has a delightful sense of humour. He is always respectful to me and the staff assisting him with the procedure in the OR. His Office Asst, Kendra, is wonderful!! Always pleasant, knowledgable and most helpful! Always a positive experience!
Very caring doctor. Treated my husband who suffers with Alzheimers with respect and kindness. Also called back by telephone to find out how he was doing with meds and was also concerned about me. Awesome doctor.
Incredible! Caring! Empathetic! Knowledgeable! These are a few adjectives I can use to describe Dr. Nate Lavens who is worth his weight in gold! He is an amazing urologist and surgeon, and I am so grateful to have had him give me back a quality of life. Being from Medicine Hat, I suffered three years of exclusively self-cathetering due to an overly enlarged prostate, visiting the local urologist every four months, and feeling I was getting nowhere. My new family doctor shared the same feeling, was not happy with the situation, and recommended I seek a second opinion. Dr. Claassen referred me to see Dr. Lavens in Lethbridge. From the moment I met Dr. Lavens, I sensed a very caring, personable and extremely knowledgeable urologist. He explained all my options with the pros and cons of each. At this point I knew due to the size of my prostate, my options were limited—the green light laser or TURP would have limited or no success. He suggested that I go to Calgary for a PAE (prostatic artery embolization) and referred me there. Within three months (and three appointments with radiologists in Calgary), Dr. Bandali performed the PAE at Rockyview Hospital, and within another three months my prostate had shrunk enough for Dr. Lavens to consider and plan for green light laser or a TURP. I then anxiously awaited surgery, and within five months I was scheduled for surgery in Lethbridge. Dr. Lavens planned to do the less invasive green light laser but was prepared to switch to a TURP if necessary. My prostate was still too large for the green light laser, and I ended up having the more invasive TURP. I spent one night in hospital.I was told it would take 8-12 weeks for things to get back to normal. The day after my surgery, I was able to urinate without a catheter. For the first few weeks, urination was both urgent and very often, Three months later, my bathroom visits have returned to normal. There are not enough words to adequately thank Dr. Lavens. He has given me back a quality of life I did not have for four years. His office assistant, Kendra has been wonderful—very friendly and professional. Lethbridge is so fortunate to have Dr. Lavens!. - MD
