Our quote was duly signed and, verbally, the contractor assured us that the neighbor agreed to pay his half. The completed work was fully paid upon receipt of our invoice. The following week, the contractor announced that he was coming to remove half the length of the fence because the neighbor refused to pay. As a result, we have to accept the fact that the contractor never gave the neighbor a quote and we have to pay the neighbor's bill for failing to have our fence removed. Our mistake was not having asked to see the neighbor's signed quote. Be vigilant and check your documents. We are happy with the work done.
