“Dr. Darren Costain studied at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, earning a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology and Immunology (with honours), a Master of Science in Pathology, a Bachelor of Science in Medicine, and a Doctorate of Medicine (with distinction). After his academic achievements, he underwent residency training in Orthopedic Surgery in Halifax. As an orthopedic surgery resident, he successfully obtained research funding for a basic science project in cancer immunotherapy. Dr. Costain’s research interests include using tranexamic acid for hip fractures (with peer-reviewed grant funding of $50,000), bone grafts in orthopedic surgery, and computer-assisted surgery. He is a member of the Canadian Arthroplasty Society, Canadian Orthopaedic Association, Canadian Medical Association, and Nova Scotia Medical Association. He has served as an ATLS instructor and a member of the American Arthroscopy Association of North America, New Brunswick Medical Association, and the Canadian Society for Immunology.

Dr .Elder operated on my shoulder 4 months ago ,prior to the operation I was in pain for almost two years. Now I-am pain free thanks to Dr. Elders expertises. He thoughtful ,a straight shooter and to the point and very helpful in explaining procedure. Thanks again for all your help. I would gladly recommend Dr Elder to anyone who needs orthopaedic surgery.

Fantastic best doctor! Very good manners, very nice person, explain very well how he will proceed in my case.. shoulder surgery. I am a senior feel so comfortable to ask questions and received good answers and advise.

Dr. Elder replaced my right shoulder and it is like new. He was very thorough. He explained everything and I am confident he will do an amazing job with my left shoulder when he replaces it in the near future. He has good bed side manner and listened to my concerns. He also answered all my questions.

Dr Costain is an amazing surgeon and an extremely personable man in general. I was referred to him with what I thought would be a life altering injury. Not 8 months after my surgery I am happy to say that it is almost as if i never had the injury. His dedication to his artistry is to be celebrated. We are lucky to have him available to us. His office staff, Sherry is always helpful, pleasant and patient with my admittedly confusing messages. A great team they are for sure.
