McMichael Canadian Art Collection include historical and contemporary Canadian artists, such as Tom Thomson, the Group of Seven and their contemporaries, and Indigenous artists from various communities. The Government of Ontario supports the museum, and they acknowledge the support of the Ministry of Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Culture Industries and the McMichael Canadian Art Foundation. The McMichael Canadian Art Collection is one of the major museums in the country, devoted exclusively to Canadian art. In addition to touring exhibitions, the museum has a permanent collection of more than 6,500 works. The gallery is located on 100 acres of northern landscape.

2025 Update: The museum's main building was designed by Ontario-based architect Leo Venchiarutti and was completed in 1954. The property includes the museum's 7,900-square-metre (85,000 sq ft) main building, a sculpture garden, walking trails, and a cemetery for six members of the Group of Seven. McMichael Canadian Art Collection offers free Wi-Fi and is accessible to wheelchairs. The museum's holdings specialize in the Group of 7 and indigenous Canadian art.
