Dr. Shamalak is a very patient and knowledgeable doctor. I have had mental illness since 1998. I spent almost 20 years in and out of hospitals, found lost on highways with a severe mental illness that plagued me and my family. I would not take medication because of voices and fear. One day I was walking on the highway with the goal of making it to Nova Scotia, I was dehydrated and sunburnt and a kind police officer brought me to the Cambridge hospital where I met Dr. Shamalak who completely changed my life. For the first time in 20 years I met a doctor who was willing to put the time and care into truly helping me. He listened, he tried different things and he stood by me when I wanted to go off meds and he was right there to catch me and help me get back on track when I needed him. His patience, love and care was what I needed and because of him I have been on the right combination of meds and have made lifestyle changes that has given me control of my life and has resulted in being hospital free for 7 years. Myself and my family can’t thank this doctor enough. I hope I can see him one day to say thank you and shake his hand once again for helping me graduate from mental health. I highly recommend this Doctor. Thank you Doctor.
