“Irving Nature Park is owned and operated by J.D. Irving. The park is a 600-acre (243-hectare) wooded park located on the City's west side. The geological history of this area fascinates visitors. Irving Nature Park offers free guided tours. There are eight different walking trails of varying lengths and a roadway that encircles the park. The trails wind in and around the trees on the shoreline, providing great places to unwind and relax. The park’s highest point is the Lookout Tower. A boardwalk that extends into the salt marsh is ideal for birdwatching, with binoculars available on-site. Irving Nature Park features beautiful scenery along the coastline, inviting visitors to take their time and explore.

2025 Update: In 2011, Irving Nature Park became the first park to be designated as an Urban Star Park by the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada.”

“Little River Reservoir Park is home to a freshwater beach surrounded by a 1.6 km walking and biking trail. The main trail circles the reservoir, crossing a bridge at the dam and another longer bridge near the upper end's wetlands. The park also includes a playground and a beach near the parking lot. Recent renovations and improvements by the city have transformed the area into a pleasant space for cycling, walking, and jogging. The trails are clear, easy to navigate, and offer scenic views. Visitors can access the preserve via a concrete walkway and a boardwalk. The park also provides amenities like playing fields, a mile-and-a-half hiking and biking track, and a nature park. The park's main attraction is its beach area, which is available for swimming. Little River Reservoir Park is a fantastic spot with waterfront views and play equipment for kids.

“2025 Update: Split Rock Trail starts by going through a stretch of alders and then along an old road. Split Rock Trail has a 5.2-mile length. This trail offers a great hike along the stunning coastline near Saint John, featuring rocky outcrops, small coves, a lighthouse and scenic views. There are many great photo opportunities along the way. The trail is well marked, but can pose quite a challenge underfoot, with extremely muddy sections, uneven surfaces and more. Bringing hiking poles and good footwear is highly recommended for this trail. Split Rock Trail allows dogs.”

IRVING NATURE PARK REVIEWS

Just a beautiful park! What a great surprise for an unexpected getaway. I drove across the border from Maine for an adventure with my daughter and I sure found one. Trails along the coast are beautiful. Lots of little stops along the way to rest and take great pictures. Many spots for an impromptu picnic and great barbecue spots. I will definitely do it again and again!!

The combination of pine scented air and briny sea air is salve to the soul. This place is peaceful and quiet. I saw seven deer throughout my two hours there! Hiking trails are well kept and relatively easy. Picnic tables and benches throughout for a rest. I love how you get forest, beach, views of the sea, salt marsh, and rocky terrain all in one place. This park is a gem!

Excellent place to enjoy the day. There's some beautiful lookout points, easy and fun walking trails and great areas for picnics. We were unfortunate to have a cloudy afternoon but we managed to have a seal visit on the southern point of the park. Enjoy the view!

LITTLE RIVER RESERVOIR PARK REVIEWS

People! Lack of exercise is a major risk factor for obesity, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, type 2 diabetes, dementia, and more. It ain't a joke. Get yourself to Little River Reservoir Park and start doing your laps! You're never too old to start! Park is clean and well maintained.

A nice easy walk that is appropriate for all skill levels. A pretty stroll that still has you feeling like you’re out in the woods. Busy but not crowded. Strollers, cyclists and dogs. Worth finding the waterfalls. Fantastic playground by the parking/beach for burning off any of the energy left in the kids.

Such a gem in the east end of Saint John. It is a nice place for kids to play and swim, and the trail is great for walking. There is also a dog park.

SPLIT ROCK TRAIL REVIEWS

This trail is un-f'ing-believable! It's easily one of my favourite hikes of all time in Canada. Everybody that raved about it was right to. It hits so many aspects of an amazing hike - scenery, wildlife, uniqueness throughout, and solid exercise. All close to Saint John. Just go do it and experience the awesomeness of it for yourself. No disappointments here. Only good fun and lasting memories. Enjoy, and have a great hike.

Nice and easy trail to take and remote enough to enjoy peaceful, coastal scenery. My first hike out on the East Coast of Canada and I HIGHLY recommend it! Beautiful views of the ocean and rocky cliffs. A wonderful dip into the Split Rock and pause for a lunch at the lighthouse.

This gives the perfect mix of challenge, beauty, and leisure. The sea air, with lovely views, sets up a fulfilling hike.
