Dr. Garnette Sutherland received his undergraduate education in both science and medicine at the University of Manitoba. He finished his residency in Neurosurgery at the University of Western Ontario. He was appointed Assistant Professor of Surgery (Neurosurgery) and Pharmacology at the University of Manitoba and promoted to Associate Professor in 1988. He accepted the Professor and Head of Neurosurgery position at the Department of Clinical Neurosciences in 1993. His primary research focus has been the application of MR techniques to the study of neurological diseases. Dr. Sutherland is also the Founding Director of the Seaman Family MR Research Centre. He was awarded the Order of Canada for his outstanding contribution to neurosurgery in 2012.

2025 Update: He has made a number of contributions to science and medicine, as reflected by 240 peer-reviewed publications, 33 monographs or book chapters, and 22 patents. Dr. Sutherland has made presentations in Australia, Asia, Europe, Hawaii, New Zealand, and North America. He strives to treat a large number of patients with difficult neurosurgical disease. Dr. Sutherland's medical inventions have been installed in more than 100 international sites.

Dr. Walter John Hader received his undergraduate degree from Mercyhurst College in Pennsylvania. He completed his medical degree at the University of Saskatchewan. Dr. Hader obtained his residency at the University of British Columbia and his fellowship in Toronto. He specializes in epilepsy and pediatric neurosurgery. His research focuses on the determinants of health in children with hydrocephalus and the surgical treatment of temporal lobe epilepsy in the intra-operative MR setting. He also researches the neuropsychological and visual consequences of selective amygdalohippocampectomies versus standard temporal lobectomies for intractable epilepsy. Dr. Walter is an Associate Professor of Neurosurgery at the University of Calgary.

Dr. Alim Mitha graduated with an undergraduate degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. After graduating from medical school at the University of Alberta, he completed his residency training in Neurosurgery at the University of Calgary. He also completed a Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering at Harvard University and a research fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. Dr. Mitha is the scientific leader of a research laboratory at the University of Calgary affiliated with the Hotchkiss Brain Institute and Libin Cardiovascular Institute, focusing on biomedical device development.
