While the city has many Japanese restaurants that serve sushi, this place is consistently one of the best. The adage that 'you get what you pay' for is very true especially with Japanese cuisine given the raw fish component and much can be said about technique and presentation. Chef Alan here is one the best and worked hard to hone his skills. Highly recommend trying out the nigiri sushi and sashimi dishes.

Mikado Southside is a must try. This restaurant is a hidden gem, located in South Common Edmonton. We’ve been visiting Edmonton frequently since we purchased a condo there 2 years ago and have driven by Mikado numerous times but never thought twice about it. On arrival my wife felt like Japanese food and since our flight came in late we decided to eat close to home. Best decision ever!!. The food aaamazing!!! Loved the service and servers in their traditional Japanese attire. We will definitely be back.

Food was great. I ordered the bento the portion is good, taste very good. The service was great as well everybody was so friendly. You won’t regret coming to mikado.

Great selection of sushi and sashimi and other things for those who don't like sushi. $40 per person all you can eat, I highly suggest only ordering 1 or 2 items to start as it can easily end up too much. If you have too much left over they reserve the right to charge the price for a complete dish. I think it's worth it. We went for a bday party it was very fast service and they handled the large table effectively. Food quality was good and it was clean.

Such a pleasure! They do gluten free so well! Dedicated frier, GF tempura, so many beautiful options, it's so relaxing knowing I can go and just order anything off of the yellow sheet! And the servers are so intentional about making clear distinctions as to what's what and I just appreciate it so much! Thanks Watari! So fresh and delicious.

One of the best sushi places in the city. Worth every penny. 33$ dinner buffer on weekdays. Love their appetizers. I tried almost all of their appetizers and I’ll give them 10/10 however regular sushi rolls were average. Overall 10/10. One extra star for their service. ???????? well done. Will recommend this place to all my friends.

NOMIYA CALGARY TRAIL REVIEWS

Excellent all around. The service was friendly, quick, anticipatory, and knowledgeable. The Ninja Roll had the perfect rice-to-protein ratio and was mildly spicy. The Crispy Salmon Roll was beautiful and full of salmon. Eggplant agedashi was flavourful. Definitely a great veggie side dish. The Swiss Hokkaido roll with black sesame ice cream was artistically presented and delicious. The platting belonged in a fancy restaurant. Altogether a great value too. I’d definitely come back.

We had the tonkotsu ramen, spicy miso ramen, and crispy paradise roll. Food was quite good, but the tonkotsu ramen soup was quite salty. I believe it’s more like the traditional ramen style where the broth is more like a sauce rather than soup. Overall pleasant experience.

I tried the takeout bento with Chicken Karaage, and it was a real treat. The chicken was surprisingly tender and juicy, with a nice crispy coating. The accompanying side dishes, including the silky eggs and refreshing spinach, were well-prepared and added a good balance of flavours. The presentation was simple but inviting, making this bento a wholly satisfying experience.
