“St. Mary’s Church was established to serve the growing population of the Catholic community in the villages of Cataract and Brampton. The church was dedicated and blessed by Cardinal James McGuigan in 1964. A cornerstone was laid, and the church continued to serve with a seating capacity of 250. The church features a small building finished with bricks and natural wood. By 1910, the church was opened and blessed. Years later, in 1964, a larger and newer church was built to accommodate the rapidly growing Catholic community of over 1,000 families. Later, the church acquired land and built the first Catholic school in Brampton. The church's fundraising campaigns led to the construction of a new church in 1963.
