Mount Thom Park is a peaceful wooded area offering hiking trails to the valley's summit and scenic views. The park also provides challenging hiking opportunities with over 5 kilometres of trails accessible from three parking areas in Ryder Lake. There are lengthy walking and cycling trails available. The park covers a 70-hectare wooded area, including the 484-metre Mount Thom summit and slopes, which offer spectacular views of Promontory and Cultus Lake. The park has sports fields, event areas, and outdoor gathering spots. The park is also an excellent spot for bird watching as it is home to Bald Eagles and flocks of ravens. Mount Thom Park is a perfect place to see the city while getting some great exercise.

Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve park covers 325 acres and offers an interpretive centre and trails. The reserve hosts one of the largest heron nesting colonies in the Lower Mainland. Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve features hiking, biking, fishing, and dog walks. These trails are well-marked for users. The reserve has many trails that are accessible year-round. Users can enjoy the bird feeding area with hummingbirds, juncos, chickadees, and woodpeckers. The trails have benches along the way, where you can sit and enjoy the surroundings. The shop has several bird displays, along with items for sale. The cost of entry is your donation to the reserve.

2025 Update: Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve park has five scenic trails, including boardwalks, benches, a lookout tower, scenic footbridges, viewing blinds and lookout points.
