Ilana Domb is an excellent teacher. Devoted to both music and her students, she consistently goes the extra mile. Think half-hour music lessons are too short Ilana consistently gives overtime and you come away with the feeling that she is at least as invested in your child’s music growth as you are! My 15-year old son says, “She pushes you to the limit.” Highly recommended!.

My two daughters spent 9 years at Scotia Suzuki learning violin, and the school provides much more than just weekly lessons. They offer countless performance opportunities throughout the year that help children develop as musicians while playing alongside students of all ages and skill levels. Those experiences keep kids motivated, excited to learn, and always striving to take their playing to the next level. Halifax is very lucky to have a school like this, and someone like Christy who gives so much of her time and energy to creating these opportunities for young musicians and the broader music community.

As a parent (with a PhD in music education), I can say with confidence that Scotia Suzuki School is doing something genuinely special in Halifax. The teachers are well-trained and care deeply for their students. The level of musicianship and confidence that students develop never ceases to amaze me. The Suzuki philosophy is honoured in its truest sense, and Christy has built a school where children are nurtured rather than pressured. Our family was part of the community for years before we moved, and we still talk about how much we miss it. Highly recommend to any Halifax family considering music lessons.

Our family has been at SSSM since September of 2018. It has become our second home and we will miss it dearly as we are moving away from Halifax. Our kids all thrived in their violin and musical theatre program. The private lesson teachers are exceptional. The group classes, orchestra and additional music offerings are all well-run, organized and essential in building a strong music school community.
