“Dr. Ali Hussen has been practicing optometry since 2007 and has seen over 40,000 patients, gaining extensive experience at one of Canada's busiest optometry practices. He works with a diverse range of patients, including children, those with special needs, adults, and the elderly, handling conditions such as cataracts, macular degeneration, corneal abrasions, and glaucoma. Dr. Hussen is board-certified in treating and managing eye diseases and has successfully referred high-risk cases to specialists. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Science from the University of Waterloo in 2003 and his Doctor of Optometry with Honours from the New England College of Optometry in 2007. He completed an ocular disease externship at the Portland Veterans Affairs Hospital and has training in hospital-based optometry, including cataract assessments, trauma care, and diabetic retinopathy. He also trained in family care and contact lens fittings at the Newport Navy Base and specialized in Amblyopia treatment at the Floating Hospital for Children at Tufts Medical Center. Dr. Hussen is dedicated to giving back and has volunteered with OneSight, providing eye care in impoverished regions such as Central America, India, South Africa, and Thailand, and continues to participate in annual eye care missions.
