After moving to Ladner at the age of six, I had my heart set on taking dance lessons at this studio at the end of my street. Fast forward 13 years later and my life has forever changed. SWD taught me what it means to work hard, to have fun and to be part of a community. I cherish every hour I have spent inside those walls as they have helped shape me into the person I am today. The owner Jyla is a kind-hearted, selfless, funny, driven one of a kid person who values each and every student she teaches. My daughter has been in daycares and day camps since she was one. This week she did the Triple Threat summer day camp through Studio West and she said it was the most fun she’s ever had at any camp. Hat’s off to all the teachers, whether it’s during the school year or summer, they put in 110% effort to teach the dancers. My daughter dances because of them.

I can’t tell you how good the studio has been for my daughter. I tell everyone the best thing about moving to Ladner has been my daughter finding Studio West.

As I touched my toes upon the FEROCIOUSLY glossed marley floors, I immediately found myself flying through the misty clouds of Deas Island dance, an experience that initiated a surge of cheeky hallucinogenic energy through my vascular body. I counted dancers, one by one, arabesquing like the wind (excuse the colloquial tone), and my heart broke with a schadenfreudic passion. A flurry of buns, a hurricane of pirouettes. A matte mirror that shrouds, but reflects the soul. The hazy walls. "Am I in the seventh heaven?" I wonder. The aggravatingly heart-wrenching studio brings to me a BLASTING whiff of muddy Deas Island, yet grounds me in a state of alarm. (A beautiful one, may I add.) ENVISION the alarm bells, turning like the dancers, glimmering with a blood-ruby red. I have not been this impressed since my previous quests in the Nicolaos Lagoon, located in the southmost gulfs of Laos. I have since attended many spectacles hosted by this iconoclastic lair. I give my GRAVEST, most INFURIATED condolences to those who have not had the tear-inducing experience of being met with this misshapen baroque pearl of a place. Alas, it is time for me to once more soubresaut away... !

Deas Island is an amazing dance studio. The teachers are all amazing, kind, and always think of what's best for their students, and the students are the most incredible and beautiful people I have ever met. I have been Dancing at Deas for over 14 years and it's become a second home where I feel comfortable and safe. I have been given so many opportunities while at Deas that I wouldn't have had if I hadn't gone to Deas (taking dance classes in New York, performing in Disney and taking dance classes in LA, student teaching other classes...) I am incredibly grateful for every moment I have spent, and will spend, at Deas Island Dance.

I have been dancing at Deas Island Dance since I was in kindergarten. I absolutely love coming to the studio - the teachers are encouraging, and the people I dance with have become my best friends. Deas Island has taught me not only beautiful technique and expression, but also discipline and a joy for dance. I could not imagine not coming to dance throughout the week. This community has become such a large part of who I am.

Deas Island Dance was fantastic for our two year old to learn about ballet and dance movements. We did Tiny Steps, Fall 2023, and I highly recommend it for any little one who loves to dance. Ms. Sarah did a beautiful job of lesson planning each week to be perfectly scaffolded and age appropriate for the class. She was friendly, warm and always welcoming with a genuine smile to greet each dancer. Deas Island Dance is an amazing dance school that offers a great dancing environment. I consider everyone from my classes to be part of my family. I have grown to be so close to everybody and without the help from the studio, I wouldn't be the person I am today. All the teachers are so kind and caring and are always there to support you. This is overall an astounding studio that I love to go to each and every day. Reply
