The Historical Society's original mandate was to support Aurora's historic preservation and collect artifacts. The Aurora Collection of artifacts is now managed and curated by the Town of Aurora (since 2013). Hillary House was used as both a doctor's office and a family home for more than 100 years. Aurora Historical Society is an incorporated non-profit organization that purchased the house and nearly two acres of surrounding land in 1981. The building includes surgical devices, books, journals, home furnishings, and appliances dating from the early nineteenth to the late twentieth century. In addition to its stewardship responsibilities for Hillary House, which include collections of medical instruments, historical artifacts, and related documents, the Historical Society is increasingly involved in education, heritage, and preservation.
