“Dr. Michael L. West completed his MD at Queen’s University and his internship and residency in internal medicine at Dalhousie University. He also completed a residency in nephrology at the University of Toronto. He completed a research fellowship in renal physiology and acid-base and electrolyte disorders at the University of Toronto. He is the principal investigator of the Canadian Fabry Disease Initiative, a multi-centre national study of enzyme replacement therapy in Fabry disease.

2025 Update: He is a professor of medicine and assistant dean of research for clinical trials at Dalhousie University. Dr. Michael L. West is a past president of the Canadian Society of Nephrology. He is a clinical nephrologist and the founder and director of the Nova Scotia Fabry Disease Program. He runs a weekly clinic for patients with Fabry disease. Dr. Michael L. West is the chair of the Scientific Committee of the Canadian Fabry Disease Initiative (CFDI) Registry. He served as the nephrology division head and a member of the Department of Medicine Executive Committee for six years.”

Dr. Keough-Ryan also represents the Central Atlantic region on the national Kidney Transplant Advisory Committee with Canadian Blood Services and is a member of the Royal College Specialty Committee for the Diploma Program in Solid Organ Transplantation.

I am a patient of Doc West for the past 4yrs. I am an unique case he doesn't see people with this condition as much. I have to say he is a fantastic doctor. Very caring kind and very smart. I recently went to the US for a second opinion and Dr.West was so supportive with me going he actually took time to send letters to these doctors in the US explaining what I have and how I have been treated in the past. In the US at one of the top hospitals in the world they were very pleased with the information he had sent. And yes everything that Dr.West diagnosed me with and all the treatments I have done were what the doctors in the US would have done also. It made me feel even more confident to be in the hands of Doctor West. I think very highly of him and the relationship he has with his patients. A few times he has called me at home to check on me. Thumbs up to this man!! Also his nursing staff in his clinic are Awesome :).

Very good doctor compassionate and truly cares about is patients and is very honest, he was even my doctor and he was the only one that would take time to come and talk to me,my own doctor and other 3 other doctors wouldn't even take a minute.

Dr West took great care of me. Good bedside manner. A bit tight lipped, but in my case, their was nothing to report. As for the negative ratings posted. We all have off days, and even @ss #oles get sick!

I was lucky enough to be a patient of Dr. Acott and John Crocker from the age of 12 until 18 years old. These two men saved my life more times then I can count. If there were ever two angels walking this earth .. they will always be my favorite ones. Thank you Phil and John ( RIP) for all you did for me . Yesterday was 11 year since my second kidney transplant. I was blessed to have the best looking after me at a very young age and have been defying the odds set against me since. Only because of the love, compassion and hard work they did to keep me alive. Anyone would be lucky to have or have had you look after them .

Dr. Acott took care of me when I was 12-18. He was incredible, genuine. He used to come into my first job and spoke to me with the same caring personality he did when I was visiting him. 20 years later I post this review so he made an impression. While he did treat me, I chose the term he took care of me for a reason. He cares.

I feel so fortunate that my kids have been followed by Dr. Acott since they were babies. He is such a kind person, very open and attentive. He takes a lot of time to fully explain things and is always willing to answer questions. He has a great rapport with kids and adults and I have never felt rushed.

Dr. Tammy Keough-Ryan is extremely professional and is a straight-talking doctor. She made a very complicated chronic health condition understandable to me and my mom who has been a patient for 20 years. She is the top authority on kidney transplants and all related health concerns. My mom has received the greatest care from each and every person who has worked in the clinic. These specialists are very busy and at the moment short staffed. I respect every minute they give to my mom. Dr. Keough-Ryan does not mince words. She does not have the time to do this. I respect directness and specifics. 5 Stars Plus for her and her team!!

She is a consummate professional with a caring, emphatic attitude. Her knowledge is unparalleled. She is a straight-talking specialist, and I truly appreciate that candor and her undeniable respect for me as the patient living with kidney disease. With her, I am an equally valued participant in my own healthcare, which is how is should be.

Dr. Keough-Ryan is a very professional and caring MD. She listens to your questions and explains things well to her patients. Her testing, diagnosis and follow up have been much appreciated by our family. You will get the best if you get to be treated by this MD.
