TOP 3 NICHOLAS FUDGE ARCHITECTS REVIEWS
My wife and I found out about Nic from a friend of ours. From day 1, we knew he was the architects with us. Nic was about to take our ideas, stories, and dreams and turn them into a house that we love! It wasn't just the end product we loved -- the entire process was something that helped us feel confident in our decisions. You could discuss ideas with Nic and knew he was really listening to , and trying to incorporate, your feedback. Would happily build something else with Nic again -- hopefully a separate Grandparents suite!
We’re in the process of fulfilling our long standing dream of owning a Nicholas Fudge architectural project. The whole process has been a pleasure so far in no small part to how easy Nick is to work with. We can’t wait to walk in to our finished home!
Professional, knowledgable, sensible and very easy to get along with. We have worked with Nick in a few different capacities and will be calling on him again for sure. Excellent ideas, plans and followthrough.

Here's The Rundown: Abbott Brown Architects was established in 2013. The partners, Jane Abbott and Alec Brown, worked in Vancouver, Berlin, London, Copenhagen & Toronto before each returning to Nova Scotia. Nova Scotia is known for its powerful, creative design. Their approach is rooted in the conviction that architectural design can be richer and more impactful than it often is. The company works on a variety of projects, from modest homes to major public commissions. Much of their work reflects this intersection between modern, aspirational design thinking and an appreciation of the local Maritime context and conditions. They work collaboratively with their clients, builders, engineers, craftsmen & artists to draw these qualities out and create spaces with a joyful & rooted sense of place. Abbott Brown Architects strives to provide an inclusive and diverse creative & working environment. They search for new opportunities to improve a given scenario, clarify the design idea, and distill issues down to strong elemental moves that, in turn, bring buildings to life.

TOP 3 ABBOTT BROWN ARCHITECTS REVIEWS
Jane and Alec helped us achieve our vision of having a cottage that would "bring the outside in." We feel like we are literally living in nature! The proportions of the rooms are perfect and the design is just beautiful. We love the way the light comes through our many windows at different times of the day and at different angles - and how the varying ceiling heights give it such a cozy, yet open feel. And then there are all the little finishes that make it feel so modern and clean lined. Jane and Alec pushed us when we needed to be pushed, but also listened to what was important to us. And the result is spectacular!
Jane and her team worked with us to transform our century-old downtown home. They designed an ideal main floor kitchen, living area and front/rear exterior entries that really open up the flow and light in our home. Their clean and modern design approach and attention to detail resulted in a distinct look and a functional space that perfectly suits our family.
When we retired form the federal public service, we decided to move to small town Nova Scotia (my home province) and build from scratch after years of renovating homes in Ottawa. Visiting Lunenburg, we saw that among the fine 18th century homes of Old Town could also be found a brand new cape style home clad in cedar shakes that somehow fit in to the UNESCO zone despite being of recent vintage. Now we were scouting empty lots instead of older houses. Only a block away from the cape cottage we found a large lot facing north near the top of a slope with a potential view of the Back Harbour. We started working with Alec and Jane (Brown & Abbott, respectively) by e-mail and Skype and then met regularly with them in their Halifax office once we had moved to rented quarters in Lunenburg. We loved the look of the cape house he had designed, but had our own ideas for the interior where we wanted an integrated, open plan with lots of light, but no dormers. Skylights are frowned upon by the UNESCO requirements, but AbbottBrown came up with a brilliant way to hide the skylights while giving the interior of the home a flood of light worthy of a cathedral. During construction, there were a lot of questions about that 'box on the roof' - was it an infinity pool? a helicopter pad? - but the final look, while innovative, was beautifully integral to the cedar shake cape house design. To fit in to the Old Town, there had to be at least a reminder of the famous Lunenburg 'bump' (a style of street-facing dormer), so a tall from window casement over the door provides a notional 'bump' and even more light for the master bedroom, as well as the view towards First Peninsula over the Back Harbour. Throughout this very collaborative process of design-build AbbottBrown worked closely with us on ideas and provided the expertise we lacked to see how it could actually be done. Originally to be built on a cement pad, we made a last minute change to a full basement. It all fit together nicely in the end thanks to the builder's skill (d'Risser's a local firm) and AbbottBrown's flexible design capability. This is a firm that listens to clients and works together with them, with imagination and design discipline, to produce a superb final product.

Here's The Rundown: Omar Gandhi Architects is a famous architect company in Halifax, founded in 2010. The internationally honoured practice has produced a portfolio of architecture and other designed products for projects ranging from homes and innovative urban infills to medium and large-scale public works and historic landscapes. Gandhi and his highly collaborative OG team create architecture that often responds remarkably to design briefs. ‘There is a sense of play and the unexpected in key parts of their designs,’ explains Gandhi. As a result, each scheme is unique and surprising in form and interiors, as well as in the way materials are expressed. The practice’s critically acclaimed work continues to attract ambitious clients, and this has been key to architecturally sophisticated projects such as the Schlotfeldt Residence in British Columbia’s Okanagan Valley, the Rabbit Snare Gorge cabin in Nova Scotia, and Omar Gandhi Architect's remarkable landform-like intervention at the historically important Peggy’s Cove site in Nova Scotia.

We've had the honour of working with Omar and his team to design/build our home. Omar's work is thoughtful and professional. His attention to detail was noted throughout our entire project. We always felt we were in good hands with Omar and his team. We wouldn't hesitate to enlist Omar again.
Omar and Jeff understand how to design form, function, and austere beauty into a house that captures the essence of wild and harsh terrain. We are grateful for our steel beetle.
I have worked with Omar Gandhi Architects on multiple projects. Their designs have always been unique which has made it a fun experience to see what they come up with. They are a great group of people to work with and very professional.
