“Fairmount Bagel's heritage traces back to when Isadore Shlafman, a skilled bagel baker from Russia, came to Montreal seeking work in his trade. To his surprise, he found no bagel bakeries in the city and thus decided to open Montreal's first bagel bakery. This marked the beginning of Fairmount Bagel's rich history. In 1950, Isadore's son Jack joined him in the bakery. In 1979, his grandchildren became part of the business, followed by two of his grandsons in 2010. With four generations of the Shlafman family running the establishment, Fairmount Bagel has become an authentic institution in Montreal, preserving the bagel-making technique and tradition that Isadore started over 100 years ago. One of the best bagels in Montreal, hands down better than NYC bagels, while I am from Queens where all the bagels are made. Growing up eating NY bagel, every time you eat one, you are full for the whole day. It is a lot of doughs, vs Montreal bagels smaller lighter, crispy outside and light and chewy and sweet inside. We ordered like 9 dozens for friends and families, good thing we called in earlier or else it would be hard to get all of the bagels we needed. Great service chatting with the manager or owner, Joe at the counter. He was friendly to chat with and knows how to run the business well.

This chain maybe a later comer than The Fairmount but I personally like this location for few reasons. Bigger space, much more engaging and friendly staff that made you feel welcome. The sesame bagel same price @1.25CAD is really hot and fresh compared to lukewarm one at Fairmount, better crunch and aroma. So that's my 2 cents worth.

First stop we go when we arrive to Montreal. Staffs are very friendly, was lucky to try the avocado bagels. They also sell merchandise and we got the magnet. Price are very reasonable too.

FAIRMOUNT BAGEL REVIEWS

Alright no bagel expert here so I will give them a 5 stars based on them being the first bagel shop (1919) in Montreal. Came to this very smallish original store on Fairmount Ave, the most popular sesame bagel is 1.25CAD. WARM, smaller compared to US bagels, slight sweetness. Not bad. Then I went on to the other Montreal biggie St Viateur which personally I think it's better. BTW my hotel also serves Fairmount (6 in a plastic bag) which needed to be toasted to taste good.

Crunchy, soft and SUPER FRESH, right from the oven bagels!!!! So good and you can't compare it with anything else, so unique in all the aspects. A MUST GO!!!! Staff was also very friendly to be. They are opened 24 hours.

I had one sesame bagel and the other one was the blueberry. Both are on the sweeter side, they are not extremely big so you can definitely try more than one flavor.

Tasty breakfast, love the vibe, great service and the atmosphere is very chill . Fresh and delicious bagels, we ordered them with smoked salmon, it took 3 mins to be ready , amazing ! The only thing I didn’t love was the chocolate croffin, that one I wouldn’t recommend. Flavourless.

Went here on the second day of our trip to Montreal and had to go back every day after! This is hands down my fav cafe. The food was simple yet delicious. The bagels are made on site and were delicious. The have amazing vegetarian options which I appreciated a lot! Also, the place is gorgeous and the staff was so helpful and friendly. I can’t wait to go back.

A lunch spot that I have been going to for a while now. They have gluten-free bagels which I appreciate a lot. Their soup has no dairy and their coffee is good. You get to choose your cup and today this was mine.
