ST. PATRICK'S PARISH

5633 Highway, 7, Markham, ON L3P 1B6 Directions

Here’s The Deal:
"
St. Patrick’s Parish is one of the pioneer parishes serving the community. The first mass was celebrated on September 23, 1855. As the community continued to grow, more space was required, and a new and larger church was built by 1870. By 1932, the church became a separate parish. Priests from St. Augustine’s Seminary journeyed to Markham and beyond to celebrate mass. By 1904, the church had twenty-two registered families. The Catholic community continued to expand, and by 1960, a larger church was needed to accommodate the surging growth. The current church was built between 1969 & 1970. Over 7500 families are registered to the church, and the visitors' count is increasing gradually by the time."

CHINESE MARTYRS CATHOLIC CHURCH

2755 Denison Street, Markham, ON L3S 2J3 Directions

Here’s The Deal:
"
Chinese Martyrs Catholic Church was planned and approved by the Archbishop by 1987. The first mass was held at the Divine Infant Catholic School hall, and the first parish council was formed by April 1988. The church had about 200 parishioners participating in the mass at that time. After years, several committees were formed, including RCIA/C, Sunday School, etc., to serve the community. As the community population increased, space started running out. The parish borrowed Blessed Mother Teresa Catholic Secondary School as an alternate venue of masses. The parish community requested to build a new church, and it was finally approved by 1991. After years of collecting funds, the new church with 900 seatings was completed, and masses were started. The church is serving the growing and expanding parish community with an optimistic and hard-working attitude."

ST. THOMAS THE APOSTLE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH

14 Highgate Drive, Markham, ON L3R 3R6 Directions

Since 1986

Here’s The Deal:
"
St. Thomas the Apostle Roman Catholic Church is one of the oldest churches serving the community with many lectors, ushers, and musicians. The parish community was established by 1982, and Fr. Siro Lunardon, the founding Pastor, celebrated the first Mass. The church celebrated Liturgical celebration, Confirmations, and one hundred made their First Holy Communion. From serving thirty families, the church was expanded to accommodate the growing population of the parish community. The carols performed by the church were rendered in many languages, reflecting the many cultures. A new committee, Steering, was established to plan and carry out the construction of building the new church. A very solid edifice building was built, and parishioners could celebrate masses and feast in the church. The church now holds people and resources to make their service as a well-functioning and active community."
