“Laurel Creek Conservation Area is a serene natural retreat spanning 300 hectares. The park includes boat launches, sports fields, community centers, and gardens. A community campsite is also available for enrolled youth organizations. Laurel Creek Conservation Area offers swimming, windsurfing, and other recreational facilities. The trails are open year-round and wind through forested areas. The friendly staff work hard to keep common areas clean.

2025 Update: The park is owned by the Grand River Conservation Authority (GRCA). The area is known for its wildlife and birdwatching opportunities, making it an ideal spot for nature enthusiasts.”

“Bechtel Park features a large forested area with numerous trails parallel to a river. This park is on 100 acres of land on the city's east side. The park has excellent wooded trails and many athletic facilities. Bechtel Park also has a great fenced area for walking dogs off-leash. Bechtel Park has picnic tables and other amenities for people to enjoy the outdoors. Users can also enjoy the well-maintained park with many amenities, including tennis and baseball diamonds. Visitors can also take the ski trail path to the marsh and follow the creek. There are plenty of well-shady spots on a hot summer day for an enjoyable, relaxing stroll. Lots of parking is available at the park.

“Waterloo Geo Time Trail illustrates significant geological occurrences through 18 interpretive signs. The park is located four kilometres from the city centre. Every four meters represents one million years of geologic history. Waterloo Geo Time Trail is open to the public and hosts several events annually. There is a great playground for kids and excellent pathways for walking and relaxing. The trail explains when geological cycles begin and end, provides information about numerous biological species that have arisen on Earth, and details significant catastrophic events. The signs along the trail contain fascinating facts.

2025 Update: Waterloo Geo Time Trail traces the City of Waterloo's geological past through interpretive signs along the route. Each meter of this 4½-kilometer (2.8-mile) trail marks one million years of geological history. Every millimetre represents 1,000 years.”

LAUREL CREEK CONSERVATION AREA REVIEWS

It was nice and well kept. Wish the sites had more privacy but they are spaced nicely about in certain areas. We went on 1 hiking trail and it was nice, cleared away and clean and a lovely walk. The water was nice to look out onto, next time I'll check out the water more. November-Sadly the camping sites and certain areas aren't accessible but many of the trails are. Sites just opened and it looks amazing there right now. Bought a kayak so I'm excited to check out the waters.

Awesome spot to camp, go for a nature walk or just spend some time out of the city. There are a few trails around that make for excellent hiking, and if you're an avid photographer you may get some cool opportunities. Shelters are clean, well kept and very spacious! My family has been there twice, and will definitely be going again.

Laurel Creek is amazing. Started going early last year and watched the place flourish and grow over the following months. It eventually gets drained later in the year, but its okay, nice to remember about and there are still trails if you ever want to go back in the winter months.

BECHTEL PARK REVIEWS

A lovely place to be at within the company of nature. I truly enjoy walking through the trails and this forest. The marsh is the best place to see while the redwing black birds are nesting and the Blue King Fisher is super shy you just may be in luck to get a glimpse of him.

Clean, well maintained park with lots of amenities including tennis and baseball diamonds. Large wooded area with plenty of trails running parallel to a river. I find the grave site attached to the park a little offsetting but that just me.

Great trails.... Lots of options... Magnificent views...a little stream where we had lots of fun... Nice pic of an upturned tree.... Only negative was the rude lady who refused to keep her aggressive dog on a leash....

WATERLOO GEO TIME TRAIL REVIEWS

Really nice and educational nature trail for Waterloo area. One of the nicer ones around for sure. 4km round trip loop, takes about an hour, full of signage on where to go. Not all the signs are up yet but there are directional arrows spray painted on the ground near the posts where signs should be. Half of the trail backs on to backyards of large houses in the area. First part of the trail is probably the most picturesque with some bodies of water especially now that it is fall. Wasn’t too busy on a Saturday. Saw some geese, chipmunks, and snakes on the path. Very neat sundial about halfway through.

Absolutely beautiful trail system to walk hike or bike through. Most of the trials are even stroller friendly with the exception of the inner bush trails. Great place to come and walk around enjoying nature. But bring your bug spray it can get bad with mosquitoes and bring lots of water to drink.

Absolutely stunning trail and super easy to follow. Had a lot of fun stopping and reading the plaques along the way. Lots of really great tree cover too which was nice. Would definitely do a hike there again!
