The locale around this monument is quite nice, especially on a clear summer's day. There are some very good parks nearby, as well as access to the beach. The monument itself is good-looking, with noticeable effort in its upkeep. For those reasons, I give it five stars. However, the way the Canadians set up this major highway baffles me. It is roughly the equivalent of I-95, yet it terminates in a residential neighborhood as a two-lane street. To top that, the first official signage is on the northbound side, about a kilometer north. At least there is a monument, unlike St Johns in Newfoundland and Labrador, which ends at a random bridge, with no acknowledgment.
We’ve seen all the ferry fox monuments in Canada and this was our last. Always get teary when seeing Terry. Thankful for his courage. Parking nearby at Beacon hill. 2 to 5 min walk from parking lot. Little rocky beach across the road can check out while there.
A highly significant monument worth a visit. The start of Trans Canada Highway, running all the way to Newfoundland. Moreover, the start of Terry Fox cross-country run.
