Dr. Michel Melanson graduated from the Université de Montréal Faculty of Medicine. He is an associate professor in the Department of Medicine with a cross-appointment in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Dr. Michel Melanson joined the faculty in 1998 and was the Neurology Residency Training Director for ten years. He is the Director of the Kingston General and Hotel Dieu Hospital EMG laboratories, where he and his colleagues evaluate patients with neuromuscular disorders. He focuses on neuromuscular diseases and collaborates with basic science researchers at the Queen’s Center for Neurosciences. Dr. Michel Melanson studies clinical aspects of disorders such as ALS, Multiple Sclerosis, and Muscular Dystrophy, and he is a lead investigator in several clinical trials in ALS and Inflammatory Neuropathies. Dr. Michel Melanson is a proud member of national and international registries in neuromuscular diseases.

Dr. Lysa Boissé Lomax completed her medical and MSc degrees at the University of Calgary and her Neurology residency at Queen’s University. She completed the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Detweiler Travelling Fellowship and the Cecil Patience Reid Fellowship to pursue further training in epilepsy and genetics under Professors Sam Berkovic and Ingrid Scheffer at the University of Melbourne in Australia. Dr. Lysa then completed additional training in Sleep Medicine and was certified to read EEG (CSCN diplomate) and polysomnography. Dr. Lysa has served on national boards that created guidelines for epilepsy genetic testing and the repatriation of gene panels to Ontario. Dr. Lysa is interested in epilepsy syndromes and epilepsy genetics, including North Sea myoclonus epilepsy and cardiac arrhythmia in epilepsy.

2025 Update: Dr. Lysa runs multidisciplinary Sleep and Epilepsy clinics, as well as a Transition clinic that helps to guide children and their families as they transition from pediatrics into adult care, with an active Virtual Care practice. She is the Neurology Residency Program Director, the Director of the KHSC District Epilepsy Center and the Medical Director of the EEG Laboratory. She is an executive member of the District 7 Ontario Medical Association council. Dr. Lysa is also an active member of the ECHO Epilepsy Executive team and is the Chair of the ECHO Epilepsy Genetics section.
