Have visited the castle years ago but heard that it had major renovations so my wife and I visited it during a special day at Dundurn Park, where the castle is located. Usually close to $10 for seniors for admission, it was free, sort of like a grand reopening. The guides were very good and we walked away knowing about Sir Allan MacNab and his family. One of his daughters had 10 children after she left to get married in England.

We are on a museum tour of the area and this stop is permanently on our return list. The entire home from walls to tooth brushes are period and from the family who lived here. Make sure you pay for enough parking. Some say it's an hour but we were there for 90 minutes at least which included a walk of the grounds. Also, enter up the main stairs through the front door. Ring the door bell. Be patient, with limited staff they just might be at the far side of the building.

I was impressed by the unique design of this building. Its sharp edges, colourful mosaic tiles, and iconic clock make it a great Hamilton landmark. The surrounding grounds contain a rich assortment of sculptures. I also enjoyed the gardens and water fountain, makes for a really peaceful place to stop and relax.
