“Dundurn Castle is a 40-room Italianate-style villa that features the latest conveniences of gas lighting and running water. The staff gives you a fantastic tour and explains the rich history of architecture. The estate is well-maintained, and considerable effort has been invested in ensuring historical presentation accuracy. The house has exciting rooms, each with a unique story to explore. The castle also has a farm, open in summer, where you can view old-age farming techniques. Dundurn Castle is a great place to take guests from out of town and a perfect way to explore the history and marvel at a wealthy family's life over 150 years ago.

2025 Update: Dundurn Castle is a historic neoclassical mansion that has a 1,700 square-metre (18,000 sq ft) house that took three years and $175,000 to build and was completed in 1835. Guided tours begin at 12:10 pm and occur every 20-30 minutes, with the last tour time at 3:30 pm.”

“Hamilton Museum of Steam & Technology showcases the social and mechanical life of Canada's early industrial revolution. The famous monument is one of the best examples of Canadian architecture and is an industrial waterworks structure built in the Victorian style. The museum is a fantastic heritage and historical site that shows the ingenuity and craftsmanship of the late 1800s and has 150-year-old waterworks. The Hamilton Museum of Steam & Technology was acknowledged as one of Canada's National Historic Sites in 1977. The place has excellent educational displays and interactive events to engage young minds.

2025 Update: Hamilton Museum of Steam & Technology, also known as the “Steam Museum”, is located on the site of the 1859 Hamilton Waterworks complex. Admission to the Hamilton Museum of Steam & Technology is by guided tour only, approximately 45 minutes in length, with tours beginning at 12:15 pm, 1 pm, 2 pm and 3 pm. It offers free on-site parking.”

“Battlefield House Museum & Park National Historic Site is also known as Gage House, near King Street East and Centennial Parkway. It is located 17.3km downtown from Hamilton, ON. The house and 15.5 acres (6.3 ha) of parkland (Battlefield Park) were the property of the Women's Wentworth Historical Society (1899-1962) and given by this society to the Niagara Parks Commission on January 19, 1962. The park was designated a National Historic Site in 1960. Battlefield House Museum & Park National Historic Site with a living history museum, monument and parkland with trails. DUNDURN CASTLE REVIEWS

This is a great opportunity to learn of the history of Victorian-era Canadian (and pre-Canadian) European settlers, including the specific family history of Sir Allan MacNab. The one-hour guided tour of the building gives insight and information about MacNab, his family, and well-treated servant employees. Be sure to ask questions because your guide probably knows more than what they've scripted... Note for mobility; there are numerous flights of somewhat uneven stairs to navigate throughout the two-century-old residence (as expected) so watch your children carefully. Once the tour is completed - definitely take a tour of the entire estate, gardens, and vistas. Admission includes a pass to the Hamilton Military Museum for another good hour of exploration through 1812 history. Great for the whole family; very young children may not understand the historical significance but if they enjoy exploring houses, this might also capture their interest. Pre-purchase of tickets online is highly recommended as the tour groups are purposely kept small.

Absolutely amazing experience with a tour guide booked in advance, we're able to travel back in those times when Hamilton just started to emerge and establish as a newly built community. Having a tour guide at this place is absolutely necessary as you're going to learn a lot of facts and history, as well as all the questions answered. Staff is very friendly, knowledgeable and willing to provide the best experience.

Dundurn Castle was a fantastic place to visit. You do have to pay for admittance and can have a large tour group, I just had three people in my group. We did the tour and saw every aspect of the castle/mansion. History buffs would enjoy this and it's just a fun thing to do during a free day on the weekend.

HAMILTON MUSEUM OF STEAM & TECHNOLOGY REVIEWS

This is an amazing and awesome hidden gem of a museum. Rene was such a generous and informative guide. She gave of herself and her time and I am extremely grateful. I could have personally spent half a day just capturing images of the walking beam steam engine. It runs and is more quiet than a library and is as clean as a pin. The structure and the chimney is as interesting and beautifully crafted as the engine. The museum is close and convenient to the highway and a lakeside walk and a meal is only a jump away.

Really interesting place to learn about Hamilton history. The waterworks was amazing to see the engineering and artistry. We were lucky to go on a day when the riding trains were running. Great experience for families.

Some interesting history preserved in this site of Hamilton's first pumping station. If you like learning about local history, this is a good place to go.

BATTLEFIELD HOUSE MUSEUM & PARK NATIONAL HISTORIC SITE REVIEWS

The re-enactors go all out for the battle. Loads to do for the kids and lots of free demonstrations of baking, apothecaries etc.. There are people selling period piece re-creations and they always can answer your questions. The battle itself is vivid, costumes beautiful, and history comes alive. Amazing weekend.

The towering 100‑ft Battlefield Monument offers sweeping views and history in one spot. The Battlefield House Museum is nestled within peaceful parkland under the Niagara Escarpment — perfect for a stroll or picnic. Annual re‑enactments each June deliver vibrant living history and community spirit — a highlight of the season. Ideal for history lovers, families, or anyone seeking a uniquely Canadian experience.

I loved this Place. love history, but I was disappointed the museum was not open yet it's state it's open 12 to 4. I traveled all the way from PEI and finally got to walk on hallowed ground but I also wanted to see the museum.
