“Dr. George Athwal finished his MD degree at the University of British Columbia. Dr. Athwal has expertise in shoulder and elbow reconstruction and upper extremity trauma. He focuses on the treatment of shoulder, elbow, and wrist injuries. Dr. Athwal is experienced in performing many successful operations and is actively involved in biomechanical and clinical research about the shoulder and elbow. He is affiliated with the London Health Sciences Centre, London Health Sciences Centre South Street Hospital, London Health Sciences Centre Victoria Hospital, and St Joseph's Health Care, London. Dr. Athwal has been awarded the Dean's Award of Excellence for his research contributions to the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry, the Clinician Scientist Award from the Department of Surgery, a Career Development Award from AMOSO, and the H.S. Cameron Teaching Award. He has represented the Canadian Orthopaedic Association as a North American Travelling Fellow. He has also represented the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons as a European Travelling Fellow. Dr. Athwal is the past president of the Association of Clinical Elbow and Shoulder Surgeons (ACESS). Dr. Athwal has published over 300 scientific articles and 50 book chapters and is an Associate Editor for the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery and Clinics in Shoulder & Elbow. He is on the American Shoulder & Elbow Surgeons (ASES) and the Canadian Shoulder & Elbow Society (CSES) executive board.
