My overall experience was very informative. There are many artifacts ranging from First Nations culture to the late 20th century. While there are many virtual displays, there are a ton of word based information so be prepared to read a lot if you want to make the most from here. The atmosphere was peaceful, front counter service was good and the fee is reasonable. Just note that parking here will cost you.
I adored my visit here! The special exhibit about Canadian design renegade Tobias Wong was fascinating! Take a walk through Vancouver’s history as well as Chinese and Indigenous artifacts. Plan for 90-120 minutes then take a stroll along the sea wall if the weather allows. Ample pay parking. Pay what you can on Sundays! Highly recommended.
The exhibit “A Seat at the Table” was very interesting! Telling of the Chinese immigration experience through the lens of the restaurant industry was an engaging approach to the topic. The rest of the exhibits told some general Vancouver history through the decades 1920s-1960s/70s. A nice use of displays, ephemera, graphics and cool old items like sewing machines, a washing machine, TVs, and even a car.
